Josip Juranovic opens up on World Cup ambitions

Josip Juranovic has discussed the prospect of being in the Croatian squad for the upcoming World Cup.

The Celtic right-back believes the only player to have secured their spot in the squad is Real Madrid star Luca Modric, while every other spot is up for grabs. With the World Cup inching closer, Croatian players will be keen to impress the national team’s head coach Zlatko Dalic. Juranovic has made it clear that his sole focus is keeping his form up playing for the Bhoys and, in turn, he will catch his manager’s eye.

The Celtic star said at yesterday’s media conference ahead of this evening League Cup quarter final against Motherwell at Fir Park: “If you are playing bad, then the national team coach will not call you. You do not think about the World Cup, okay, it is close, but you need to keep your form at the club and see how it goes.

“No one is secure in their spot in the squad, maybe except Luka Modric or someone else. I am young, and I am learning stuff. Firstly I want to be a good person and then a good football player.”

Juranovic arrived from Legia Warsaw last season and he’s established himself as a first team regular under Ange. Whilst there have been rumours linking him with a move away, the player is clearly wise enough to realise that his best chance at attracting interest and earning more caps for Croatia is to play well for Celtic.
