Journalist expects Ange to make move for Larsson for footballing reasons

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested that Ange Postecoglou should be looking at a deal to sign Jordan Larsson, if he believes he fits in his Celtic team. Larsson is a free agent after his deal with Spartak Moscow was terminated by mutual consent earlier this summer.

Sky Sports have indicated that talks have been held but that other teams were interested in the Swedish Internationalist. Speaking to This Is Futbol, O’Rourke expects Ange to remove emotion of seeing a Larsson in the Hoops and only move for him if he can benefit the team.

“It might be one that Ange Postecoglou will be looking at, but I don’t think he would sign him just for the fact that he’s Henrik Larsson’s son – he would need to be someone who would improve the team and fit how he wants to see his team playing going forward.”

In Russia, J Larsson scored 27 times and assisted 9 times in 83 appearances. His market value is still growing and the opportunity to sign a player with his qualities should certainly be looked at. J Larsson can play in a central striking role or in an advanced position on the right side. This versatility from the pacey Swede will likely stick out for the manager if he looks at him. Celtic will certainly consider Larsson but much will hinge on whether Albian Ajeti can be moved on before space is created in the Celtic front line.

If Jordan were to join Celtic, he would have to work very hard to even be mentioned in the same breath as his father, who is one of the greatest players to ever play for Celtic. £650k was the fee that Wim Jansen paid Feyenoord in 1997 and it is fair to say that this represents one of the best pieces of transfer business in modern times.
