Kerr McInroy scores excellent goal for Ayr but Celtic future is uncertain

Celtic loanee Kerr McInroy scored an excellent goal as Ayr United were beaten by Kilmarnock in the Ayrshire Derby. The versatile midfielder started a move after winning position before sliding a low drive into the back of the net as the win put Derek McInnes’ team top.

Ayr, who are seventh, posted the footage of the goal from behind the goal and it is a sweet strike from McInroy, his first for the club.

McInroy made 13 appearances for Airdrie in the first part of the season, scoring four times before returning to Celtic. Airdrie had been keen on retaining him but a Championship option transpired and a move to Ayr was sealed.

The 21-year-old, who plays as a defensive midfielder, central defender and left-back, having showcased his talents in the SPFL League One. Having made 22 appearances for Dunfermline last season, Airdrie signed the player for the first half of the season and had hoped to sign McInroy again but he returned to Celtic to assess his options.

The player has recently conceded that he doesn’t think he will make it at Celtic, even though the club retain an option to sign him for another year. His performances will only increase the club’s chances of retaining him or another team swooping to sign him next season. The fact that they recalled him and loaned him out elsewhere certainly means that he is considering his options.

It is surprising that the club appear to be so undecided on McInroy, he has been consistent throughout his loan spells. Ange has stated that if players are good enough and work hard enough then they will have a chance to play under him at Celtic. You would expect the manager to be keeping tabs on all the loan players before deciding whether or not they have a future.
