Kieran Tierney to Celtic talks “progressing well”, according to Sky Sports

Sky Sports have confirmed this evening that Celtic are indeed in talks with Arsenal full-back, Kieran Tierney…

The Parkhead outfit have been linked with the former academy graduate and first team player on and off for some time now. Arsenal confirmed to the player this month that they had no intention of extending his stay at the Emirates and so Celtic and Brendan Rodgers have moved in to seal a pre-contract agreement with the Premier League star.

Tierney a generational talent

Many have been hoping that this is a move that would come to pass as Tierney was a generational talent when he burst onto the scene at Celtic Park under Ronny Deila initially. It was after that the Scottish left-back really blossomed under Irishman Rodgers, playing pivotal role in his team during his initial tenure as Hoops boss.

Those fond memories combined with his undeniable talent have proved too good an opportunity for Rodgers and the recruitment team to turn down and now they have finally made their play for the Scotland international. With this latest update, the Celtic support will be hoping a pre-contract agreement isn’t far away and can be sealed sooner, rather than later.

Tierney back up the road this month

If so, there could be scope to bring Tierney back up the road this month if a suitable financial package can be worked out between both the player and Arsenal too. That remains to be seen however, as it’s still too early to discern whether or not he will be back in Paradise before the transfer window closes next month. Regardless, this is a most welcome update and one that will surely have the fanbase purring at the prospect of a KT homecoming.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
