Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney would consider a sensational return to Celtic as he weighs up his future after a frustrating campaign with the North London club. It is expected that the defender will leave The Emirates this season with a number of clubs likely keen on keeping him in the Premier League.
According to The Sun, the Scotland Internationalist would be interested in reuniting with Rodgers at the Scottish Champions. The report states that Tierney would consider a return given the emotional ties to the club but this would likely result in a substantial outlay from The Scottish Champions.
Whether Celtic would be interested in signing a player that is on a high wage and would require a loan fee is another issue. Alexandro Bernabei is currently competing with Greg Taylor for the first choice role with the Scotland International firmly in command of the jersey.
The arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko has pushed Tierney down the pecking order at Arsenal. Even when the Ukrainian was unavailable, Tomiyasu was used as left back. This has limited Tierney’s opportunities this season and a cursory glance at Twitter suggests that the Gunners keep him as a back-up for Zinchenko.
Newcastle are favourites to sign the 26-year-old with Eddie Howe keen to bolster his defensive options.
Aston Villa have been linked with Tierney as the manager that signed him – Unai Emery – is now the manager at Villa Park. Celtic command a sell-on fee should Tierney move on after the £25m move in 2019. The defender made over 250 appearances for Celtic and the Scottish Champions will be alerted to developments in his future plans for the sell-on fee rather than to sign him.
Should never have been away in the first place!
We can’t afford him. A non-story.
