Kjetil Knutsen – Celtic should bring in Bodo Glimt boss

If the Celtic board had any sense or ambition they would go all out to get Kjetil Knutsen signed up as our new manager for next season…

He’s been mentioned once or twice as a managerial target, but I can only state yet again that Kjetil Knutsen of Bodo Glimt should be our number one target in the search for the next manager of Celtic Football Club.

His exploits with the Norwegian side are well documented, and his stock rose even higher after his side clinched a champions league play off spot after defeating Atletico Madrid in Spain, just a week after defeating Manchester City on home turf.

The 57 year old recently signed a new deal which ties him to Bodo until 2029, after severe speculation linking him with other positions, most notably the Celtic job, but if we hold any ambition of improving as a club, then we need to push the boat out and persuade Knutsen to move to Glasgow.

Knutsen is a manager renowned for having his teams well organised, and playing an offensive style of football, and getting the best out of his players. Punching above their weight and all that, especially on the big stage.

Having led Bodo to several league titles, he knows what it takes to succeed domestically with a dominant side, but more importantly and impressively, he has proven his ability on the European stage, at Europa League and now Champions League level. That should tick all the boxes in regard to any future candidate.

Indeed his achievements on the European stage for such a small club blows any argument from Dermot and Baby Desmond out of the water. If Bodo can do why can’t Celtic?

We seen close up how his side set up when they knocked us out of the Conference League a few years back, and last year he led Bodo to the semi finals of the Europa league, the first time a Norwegian side had reached that far in European competition.

This campaign has seen him overstep expectations by leading Bodo to a play off spot in the Champions League, on a fraction of the budget of the so called elite sides.

We are in dire need of a manager who can galvanise our fortunes, especially on the European stage. Knutsen is the man who can help us achieve that. The only obstacle is our incompetent board and their lack of ambition. They keep reiterating that they want to improve, well if they really want to do so, then they need to move heaven and earth and appoint the Norwegian.

If you really want to be world class in everything you do then that starts with a world class appointment such as Kjetil Knutsen.

  1. Totally agree that Knutsen would be a fantastic appointment but I fear that Celtic has missed any opportunity they might have had to sign him. As you say, he has now committed himself to Bodo Glimt and his burgeoning reputation across Europe would suggest that he will be snapped up by a team with greater ambition than that shown by the Celtic Board.

    • This conversation should have took place over 3 years ago when Bodo beat us 5-1 on aggregate in Europe.
I could see it from the stands but our clown board didnt even look at any of their players who were physically and technically so far ahead of us it was embarrassing
