KT’s advice for Montgomery, the young Celtic left-back hoping to follow in his footsteps

Kieran Tierney has been talking about Adam Montgomery, the young Celtic left-back who made his Celtic debut against St Johnstone at Celtic Park last month and is being tipped to follow in the Arsenal star’s footsteps at KT’s old stamping ground.

Like Tierney, Adam Montgomery is a product of the excellent Celtic Academy, which incidentally has endured a very difficult period due to the lack of football caused by the pandemic So the emergence of Montgomery in the first team squad was a much needed boost for the Academy and Tierney has confirmed that he’s been hearing great things about the 18 year old following in his own footsteps back at Celtic.

KT is well aware there’s a potential new star following in his footsteps at Celtic. Tierney made 170 appearances won eight trophies and various player of the year awards before securing a £25m transfer to Arsenal where he has gone on to establish himself as probably their best player. Last week he signed a new and improved contract, increasing his salary to around £110k per week amid interest in him from the likes of Manchester City.
Tierney’s transfer value will have at least trebled since his move from Celtic to Arsenal.

Speaking to Scottish Sun about the emergence of Montgomery in the Celtic first team at the end of last season in the final two matches against St Johnstone and Hibs, Tierney stated: “I saw that John Kennedy was talking about Adam Montgomery, and I’ve heard a lot of good things about him.

Debut bhoy Montgomery in the Celtic team against St Johnstone in May

“Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see his debut. But I know from speaking to Kendo and Greg Taylor at Celtic that he’s a good talent and a decent boy too. I wish him all the best.

“It’s always great to see someone come through the Celtic Academy. It was special for me to come through the ranks to the first team.

“Now, Adam’s got a chance of progressing, and I’d love to see him get more games and push for a place. All I’d advise him to do is enjoy everything. From what I’ve heard he’s a good enough player and a lad with the right attitude.

“It’s really important when you’re going into the first team environment that you get on with everyone, and you enjoy your work. I’m sure all the boys at Celtic will be looking after young Adam.

“What I swore by as a young boy was working really hard. That’s all you can do. And don’t leave yourself with any regrets on that side of things.”
