Kyogo chats and Postecoglou factor helped seal Maeda switch to Celtic

One of Celtic’s three new recruits, Daizen Maeda, has revealed that chats with current top goalscorer Kyogo Furuhashi helped convince him that the next step in his football career was Paradise. Maeda sealed his switch from J-League side, Yokohama F. Marinos today and revealed that Kyogo was a deciding factor in choosing to come to Scotland.

He said to Celtic TV: “Kyogo has been playing really well, and I have to do even better to be successful. I will try my best. When I met him at the international team, I was asking him about Celtic and he was telling me lots of good things about Celtic so I am really looking forward to it.

He said: “Kyogo is doing very well and in the past there was Shunsuke Nakamura, so of course there is a lot of interest in Japan.I hope there will be more support in Japan now.”

Our new forward will be hoping to hit the ground running upon his arrival in Scottish football. The manager knows the player well from his time working with him in Japan and will no doubt be eager to see how he settles in with his new teammates at Lennoxtown. After a great season in the J-League, the support will be praying he can aid in the pursuit of this year’s title race. He will be given the responsibility of helping breach those packed defences that Celtic come up against more and more these days.

He also revealed that working with Ange Postecoglou again played a major role in him deciding to take the lead to Europe again after an unsuccessful spell in Portugal. He added: “I know the manager from before so I’m really looking forward to it. He’s always playing attacking football so I’m looking forward to playing that again with him. My strength is my speed. I like to use my speed to attack opponents and try to get as many goals as possible.”

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
