Kyogo transfer latest as J-League side consider record fee for Celtic attacker

Celtic could be braced for a summer bid for striker Kyogo Furuhashi. The talisman is reportedly a target of J-League side Urawa Red Diamonds.

According to the Daily Mail, Diamonds are prepared to break the J-League record of £10m to sign Kyogo from Celtic.

Kyogo joined in the summer of 2021 and was one of Ange Postecoglou’s first signings. In 83 appearances under the Australian, the Japanese forward scored 54 goals and assisted on ten occasions. Although, after Ange left for Spurs and Brendan Rodgers returned to the club, Kyogo appeared to struggle to adjust to the change.

Despite this, Kyogo scored 19 times and assisted on 5 occasions in 50 appearances this season. Rodgers has already admitted that he wants to make his team in his image with players boasting pace and power. There was a throwaway comment from The Irishman recently about Kyogo making runs that were not on. It could be that the manager sees this as being the ample time to cash in on the 29-year-old.

Although, Kyogo is a fans favourite and has proven himself to be prolific in front of goal. It would require a bumper fee to even tempt the Scottish Champions, who are in an incredible financial position – especially given the incoming UCL cash.

The Scottish Champions are expected to ramp up their pursuit of Adam Idah in the summer after the striker returned to Norwich upon completion of his loan deal. If Kyogo were to go, Celtic would need to sign two strikers in the summer window.

  2. Sorry folks . . . the Reds do not have the money to buy Kyogo at “a record price”.
I dont know who makes up these stupid rumours, but J.League clubs are bound by financial fair play regulations so strict that one can estimate their transfer budgets nearly TO THE DOLLAR! This has been true since around 1999 when the league implemented its current financial regulations on clubs.

I havent done the numbers this year, but I can tell you this much: The maximum Reds could spend on an individual player, this year, is less than 5 million quid. Your maximum take would be almost exactly what you paid for him.
That is not “speculation”. That is a stone cold fact.
