“La Marseillaise” – Celtic’s French Connection and the pain they’ve inflicted

CHRISTOPHER JULLIEN is the latest Celtic Star to talk to Celtic TV about the new reality that the players are having to get used to, like the rest of us, caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The £7million summer signing from Toulouse has enjoyed an outstanding and eventful first season wearing the Hoops and appears to have loved every minute of his time in Scotland, although he was moaning back in December about it getting dark at around 4.30pm. The good news then for the Frenchman is that the clocks go forward this weekend and he’s about to experience longer days and shorter nights than he’s been used to in the south of France.

“Everything is fine here,” Jullien reports. “I’m with my kid and my girl. We’re getting used it. I know it’s difficult for everyone but we’re just trying to keep busy and see what will happen next.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of friends and family. It’s still the same for them over there in France. They’re locked down as well and trying to do the best they can. It’s difficult for everyone to stay in the house every day. It’s hard to get used to that new life, but all my family and friends know the risks and what could happen so we’re all obeying the guidance.”

The big defender scored the winner in the League Cup Final and also the winner against Lazio at Celtic Park in the Europa League during those winter days, and these will be up there among his career highlights in years to come.

It was incredible when you think of it that it was a Frenchman who inflicted defeat on Steven Gerrard’s side in that December Cup Final. It seems that the French have done more than most to inflict pain and suffering on the Rangers since they made it into the top division for the first time in 2016.

Here’s some of that misery for you to enjoy served up with a strangely engrossing version of the French national anthem, “La Marseillaise”.

“I can’t wait to see you all back out there at Paradise again,” Jullien told Gerry McCulloch. “Please stay safe. Stay home and take care of yourself and your family. Stay positive and believe that everything is going to be fine and you’ll see us again out there on the field.”

Meanwhile here’s the League Cup Final highlights for you to enjoy…
