Laxalt breaks European record with solid defensive display

DIEGO LAXALT is proving to be a hit since arriving at Celtic. Despite not having experienced a win with the Scottish Champions yet, the Uruguayan left back has been a brilliant addition to Neil Lennon’s side.

In his opening three games, Laxalt looked competent going forward and reasonably solid in defence considering that he hadn’t played in months. However, in the Group H draw versus Lille. The left-back had 77 touches in 90 minutes as well as a pass accuracy of 88.5 percent.

But it was the 13 successful tackles that he registered that broke a five year Europa League record. Celtic looked a lot more compact than they have been in recent games against a top European side so this will please Neil Lennon.

Laxalt will be hoping to continue his impressive start with a win over Aberdeen on Sunday. He is still waiting for his first win but if he continues to perform well along with the Celtic defence, the results will come and the Scottish Champions will be able get back to winning ways.

Lennon is a serial winner and he will be excited to get back to Hampden, even if it isn’t at its normal best. The Dons and Celtic fought out a 3-3 draw last weekend and hopefully the Scottish Champions come out on top in Sunday’s clash.
