Leigh Griffiths has made a surprising career move by opting to sign for SPFL League One side Falkirk. The striker rejected a short-term deal at Dundee in favour of signing for The Bairns, who are looking at ending their stay in Scotland’s third-tier.
In 17 appearances, Griffiths scored just 3 goals and Dundee were plotting to cut his deal short before Celtic beat them to it by cutting their ties with the striker after eight years. Now, Sky Sports are reporting that Martin Rennie’s side are close to the major coup.
The 31-year-old scored 123 goals for Celtic in 261 appearances but off-field issues plagued the striker’s time in Glasgow. Although, he will depart with a place in Celtic’s all-time scoring charts as well as an excellent haul of winners medals. Ange Postecoglou rewarded him, perhaps unwisely, with a one-year deal but the club decided to exercise an option to end his contract prematurely.
It is a surprise decision by Griffiths given that St Mirren and Dundee were keen on him. The location of The Bairns probably played a part in the decision and it could give the player the opportunity to find his feet again. Cove Rangers are running away with the League One title but it is all to play for in the hunt for the play-off places.
