Lennon says Celtic need to keep hold of Odsonne Edouard amidst English interest

ODSONNE EDOUARD was the man of the match as Celtic beat Hamilton Accies 5-1, scoring a hat-trick and proving his class. The Celtic manager, however, was fielding questions about the hitman’s future as Arsenal and Leicester are tipped as being interested in the Frenchman but Lennon says that should Celtic want to win 10IAR, they need to keep him.

Former manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly chasing a £40m deal for Celtic, with Arsenal also tipped as admirers of the 22-year-old – according to the Daily Mail.

Lennon, speaking to Glasgow Live, reckons that Edouard is loving his time in Glasgow and the feeling is reciprocated by the Celtic faithful as his talent continued to shine through in the win on Sunday. The Irishman said that they would try and keep him at the club amidst the inevitable interest that a player of Edouard’s quality brings.

“We can’t help that, it’s inevitable. But we’ll try to stave off any admirers.

“I’m sure there are plenty out there, but we love having him here and I’m sure he’s enjoying it.

“He’ll be well on the radar of clubs before the start of this season.

“He had 28 goals up until March last season, and I was delighted with that goal return.

“I was delighted with the goals he got too, he was on the end of things and that pleased me.

“I was really pleased, he scored great goals. His volume of goals is really pleasing me.”

With 28 goals last season, it is no surprise that there is interest in Edouard but the Scottish Champions need to keep him around due to the qualities that he has, goals he brings and contribution to his teammates.
