Lincoln Red Imps have been a thorn in Celtic’s side in recent times. The Gibraltar club embarrassed Celtic during Brendan Rodgers’ first game at the club, beating us 1-0 on the rock just off the Spanish coast. Celtic did recover with a comfortable win in the second leg, but the curse of Red Imps has struck again.
When the Hoops claimed that the Quadruple Treble was the first in the world, Lincoln Red Imps shot down the claim with a Tweet reading “Hold my beer.” Indeed, the Imps pointed out that they won a Quintuple Treble in Gibraltar between 2003 and 2008!
Hold my beer 😉🍺
The #QuintupleTreble – 2003/04, 2004/05, 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08. https://t.co/3wX7tD8FtE— Lincoln Red Imps FC (@LincolnRedImps) December 22, 2020
It seems that we will have to acknowledge the Red Imps’ achievement and retract the world first comment! However, I’m content with a Quadruple Treble, world first, Scottish first, UK first or otherwise. Or on the other hand, maybe not…
Gibraltar not accepted into UEFA until 2013 with FIFA status coming into play in 2016. Amateur titles don't count. x https://t.co/eu4fSaAQ13
