Live Irish Music For NHS Patient Fundraiser

One of the side effects of the Covid-19 pandemic is that those in hospital, with other ailments, cannot have visitors due to social distancing. Not only does this mean that people can feel lonely, but they also cannot get the supplies they want and need to make their stay in hospital more comfortable and bearable.

In my local area, Poole (Dorset), many child patients can’t have parents to stay with them unless they are in a private room. Having spoken to local NHS staff, myself and a friend discovered that toiletries, treats and entertainment were in high demand.

As such, we set up a gofundme page and began purchasing essentials, snacks and items to entertain. This morning, we made our first delivery to Poole Hospital:

It included:

  • 320 Sanitary Towels
  • 100 Kit Kat Bunnies for children
  • 8 Shampoos
  • 8 Conditioners
  • 20 Female Deodorants
  • 12 Male Deodorants
  • 90 Energy Bars
  • 16 Shower Gels
  • 10 Large Toothpastes

Our next delivery will be roughly four times the size with more toiletries, magazines for men and women, hand cream for NHS staff & activity packs, colouring books and reading books for children.

Facebook Live Gig:

Of course none of this would be possible without the kind donations that we have received. In order to keep up the project, Donegal born singer and Celtic fan, Danny Kelly, has agreed to perform a live video on Facebook at 9pm tomorrow evening (Saturday 18 April).

The gig will take place on the Glasgow Irish Bands and Gigs page . Danny will be performing a range of Celtic, Irish folk and Irish Rebel songs, all of which play a big part in the match day culture of many Celtic fans.

A PayPal link will be attached to the video, should you wish to donate. 50% of donations will go towards our project purchasing patient supplies, and 50% will support the singer at this difficult time, with pubs and music venues being ordered to close putting him out of work.

Danny is a regular performer on the Glasgow Irish scene and currently has a range of merchandise, including a CD by his band (Tir Chonaill) available on his website: dannykellymusic.bigcartel.com

Tune in for an hour of entertainment. All donations are much appreciated.
