Liverpool rub salt in Celtic’s wounds as Owen Beck set for Dundee return

Celtic have been dealt a blow after Liverpool sanctioned the loan return of Owen Beck to Dundee. The Scottish Champions were interested in bringing the promising Welshman to Paradise; however, the decision by Jurgen Klopp to sub him on in the closing stages of a 4-0 win away to Bournemouth meant that the player’s Celtic move was derailed.

Tony Docherty’s Dees will welcome back the talented 21-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Due to FIFA rules, Beck couldn’t feature for a third club this season – having already appeared for Dundee. It was clear that the player’s gametime would be limited at Liverpool, who welcomed back Scotland skipper Andy Robertson at the weekend. Now, the player has pushed for a return to the City of Discovery.

The player has two and a half years left on his deal at Anfield and will likely fancy a crack at first team football, having impressed at Dens Park. Celtic could revisit in the summer but with Brendan Rodgers keen to strengthen his team this month, he might see his window to Celtic close.

The seven minute cameo coupled with Nat Phillips’ spell at the club leave many wondering what Celtic have done to annoy Jurgen Klopp this year.

Celtic are keen on bringing in a striker and a left back having brought in Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna. There are suggestions that Sydney van Hooijdonk could come in on loan from Bologna but the rumour well appears to be running dry ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
