Livingston 2-4 Celtic – Three points, but same problems still evident

Three points, but same old problems still evident…

Yesterday started on a positive as Hearts crashed to defeat in the Edinburgh derby at Easter Road, despite the home side doing their level best to throw it away, ‘Hibsed it’ I believe the term is universally known.

That gave Celtic the perfect opportunity to cut into the league leaders six point gap, and the Champions did just that by beating Livingston 4-2 in an exciting yet strangely bizarre game of football to narrow the gap on the Jambos to just three points with the advantage of a game in hand.

Despite being fired up by the scoreline at Easter Road, and having the majority of support, the players looked as if they were trying their best to shoot themselves in the foot by falling behind against the league’s bottom placed side, not just once but twice in the opening eight minutes.

Incredibly it was 2-2 after just ten minutes, with Benjamin Nygren and Yang cancelling out a Cristian Montano brace. Both Livi goals although clinical strikes from Montano were all down to amateurish defending from a Celtic backline who once again flattered to deceive.

In an attacking sense we looked potent and well drilled, and more organised than in recent games, although it’s plainly evident once again that we are crying out for a seasoned striker to sharpen a blunt void in the centre forward position. Johnny Kenny, I’m afraid isn’t the answer, and Nancy will have to persuade Michael Nicholson to splash the cash on a quality and worthy recruit to fill that void.

All in all it was an excellent day for Celtic, and three points is three points, but sterner tests lay in wait. Next up its an in-form Motherwell side at Fir Park, and then the small matter of a Glasgow derby at Celtic Park against theRangers. And if we continue to perform in the same manner defensively speaking, then we will be punished, you can be sure of that.

  1. When you are playing catch up football, such as ourselves are at present. Then gaining the right result, far out does the performance levels?

Even so, we are still a club that’s needs to be looking at the European picture also.
In that regards, we are miles away from where we would like to be as a club imo?

It’s terrible to say, but could our final 2 remaining games, within the europa league, be more of a hindrance, to trying to recruit the players we are hoping to attract?

We aren’t in a position to be able to off load want away players yet, due to the injury list and those 2 remaining europa league matches?
Any new arrivals in January, won’t be eligible for the 2 remaining europa league games, where points are still required to progress within the competition?

Defensive displays such as yesterday, will get punished far more so within European football for sure imo?
That is potentially the dilemma Nancy is already facing, before January is even upon ourselves?

    • I agree that a better side than Livi would have caused us real problems. At Fir Park on Wednesday we will be put through the mill and I can only hope that we start taking the chances we create. We cannot afford any slip ups now

  2. I think we should bring back Nawrocki from is loan spell to replace Ralston and we need Johnstone back asap. I agree Kenny is not good enough so a good striker is needed , we must hold on and try to persuade Maeda to stay he is our best attacker at present. Rumour has it that Balickwisha can play centre forward it might be worth giving him a go up top
