Livingston’s Bartley lists Celtic midfielder as the best player in Scotland

MARVIN BARTLEY has paid homage to Callum McGregor, claiming he is the best all-round player in Scotland. The 33-year-old has faced McGregor in the midfield numerous times – both at Hibs and Livingston and believes that the 26-year-old could play anywhere in the midfield.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, Bartley revealed that he sometimes watches clips of McGregor to improve himself. McGregor has been at the heart of the Celtic midfield alongside Brown and he continues to impress supporters as well as his fellow pros.

“Callum McGregor at Celtic for me is an all-round midfielder, absolutely fantastic with everything he does.

“He’s not the sort of player on the pitch to be mouthing off to you, he just gets on with his job. One minute he’s there and the next minute he’s gone.

“He can do a bit of everything, he can play as a number eight or 10, for me he is the most complete central midfielder in this country. I think he is a fantastic player and I always sing his praises.

“I’m still learning and I like to watch him play, he’s younger than me and that’s probably the best accolade I can give him; I think he’s fantastic as an all-round player.”

McGregor had occupied a deeper role this season with Scott Brown, during the first half of the season; although a change to the formation with a 3-5-2 allowed McGregor to push forward and get amongst the goals again. During his time with the Scottish Champions, Ronny Deila played McGregor as a No.10, Brendan Rodgers opted to place him on the left because he was too good to leave out but it appears that he has settled in the heart of the Celtic midfield alongside Scott Brown.

McGregor has played 50 games for Celtic already this season, his relentless commitment to playing football is a marvel. McGregor signed a new long term contract with the Scottish Champions but it wouldn’t be a surprise if clubs attempted to use the Coronavirus pandemic as an opportunity to attempt to prise away McGregor.
