Loferski surprise as two Celts in SWPL Team of the Week ahead of semi-final draw

The draw for the semi-finals of the Sky Sports Cup will take place tomorrow morning (Thursday) at around 10.45am and it will be broadcast live on Sky Sports News.

Celtic FC Women earned a place the hard way but in emphatic fashion beating the current SWPL1 Champions Glasgow City 3-0 on Friday night over at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie, in the first of the last weekend’s four quarter final ties.

Another decent Celtic crowd for the Celtic FC Women’s team

As we predicted on The Celtic Star, Hibs, Partick Thistle and theRangers all made it through to join Fran Alonso’s side in the hat.

The Sky Sports Cup Semi-Finals will take place on Sunday 21 January, 2024 and the final will be played on either Saturday 23 March or Sunday 24 March, 2024

Meanwhile TWO Celtic players made the SWPL1 Team of the Week, with Friday’s Player of the Match Natalie Ross joining the Celtic skipper – who likes nothing better than lifting silverware for the Hoops – Kelly Clark both selected. How Kit Loferski never made the team after her stunning goal against Glasgow City is a mystery, to say the least.

Kelly Clark joined Natalie Ross in the Team of the Week but surprisingly there was no place for Kit Loferski after her stunning goal against Glasgow City

While the Celtic first team isn’t playing this weekend due to the international break, the Celtic FC Women side are in action on Sunday afternoon (19 November), away to Hamilton at New Douglas Park (lick-off 4.30pm)  in what should be – fingers crossed – a fairly routine match as far as collecting the three points is concerned.

Kit Loferski celebrates with Amy Gallacher after scoring Celtic’s third goal against Glasgow City

The real interest will be in another game earlier that afternoon where Glasgow City are at home to theRangers (kick-off 2-10pm) and if the Champions take anything from their home match then Celtic would almost certainly end the weekend back at the top of the table.

City and the current leaders shared the points in a 1-1 draw earlier in the season, with theRangers on a decent run of form under Jo Potter but City will be looking to bounce back after their cup exit last Friday night against Celtic.

You can watch the Unique Angle from that game below, and don’t miss that third Celtic goal from Kit Loferski. It’s sensational!
