Love Street: Meeting Albert Kidd

A FEW more of your memories from Love Street came in over night, it would be a shame not to tell these stories from 3 May 1986 when everyone seems to remember where they were that day – if of course you are old enough.

Here’s the first of two features we will post this morning…

I was at Love Street in 88 with my three brothers and two young nephews. Great memories of the day and the one thing that sticks in my mind was after we went 5 up it was the quietest, busy football game I had ever been at.

I remember Judas going to a photographer behind the goals after Albert had scored must have asked him what had happened. I was 31 at the time fast forward nearly 30 years, I was on a cruise with my wife sitting at the bar we got speaking to a lady who was sat on her own who said her husband would be a long soon.

Five minutes later the husband arrived and we began talking. After about 5 minutes I asked him where he came from.He said that he lives in Australia but was from Scotland and told me his name was Albert.

I stood up and cuddled him saying to him ‘you’re Albert Kidd aren’t you?” and it was. We spent a good few days on that ship with Albert him wife and his brother and his wife absolutely brilliant people.

We have kept in touch by email then last year I received an email from him he was coming to Scotland and would I like to meet up. So of course I said yes. What he didn’t tell me at first was I was going with him to the Albert Kidd night at Celtic Park and the players from Dundee and the Celts from that day at Love Street which was one of the best days and nights of my life.

God Bless Albert Kidd.

P.s. I had to tell him about Love Street that day as he was busy elsewhere!

Hail Hail
