Major boost for Celtic as right winger nearing return

Celtic have been handed a massive boost with the news that James Forrest is nearing a return to action. The manager delivered an injury update over the 29-year-old, who has been missing from first team action since the Europa League play-off win back in September and Lennon told the media conference ahead of the game against Dundee United that his return will be like a new signing.

Celtic face Rangers at the weekend and will be hoping that they can take maximum points so that when Forrest returns to the side, they can enjoy the benefit of his return to action.

“Jamesy will hopefully be back in training in a couple of weeks.

“He’s been hugely missed. Not only his goals, but assists as well. He was coming into really good form. It’s been a very frustrating period for him but having him back will be like a new signing.”

In the wide areas, particularly the right, Celtic have look short on options with Ryan Christie and Jeremie Frimpong operating out there at times. Lennon has decided to go with a 4-4-2 Diamond but with Forrest returning, he has the opportunity to revert back to a 4-2-3-1 if need be. The ability to adapt formations in game is important to the success of the team but they need the players that are able to execute the manager’s plans.

Forrest has been a mainstay in the Celtic sides that have won 9 titles in a row and his experience as well as the quality in the final third, that has been sorely missed in recent weeks.
