Manchester United manager dismisses talk of Celtic move

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has dismissed any talk of a move to Celtic for England goalkeeper Dean Henderson. The 23-year-old was linked by 90Min with a loan move to the Scottish Champions in January but speaking ahead of their Champions League clash. Celtic have been linked with moves for Henderson and Fraser Forster with summer signing Barkas being forced to act as deputy to Scott Bain but Solskjaer told the Sun that the goalie is happy with the status quo.

“Dean wants to stay at Man United and play for Man United. I can’t see the logic in (the suggestion there is) only one potential appearance left before Christmas.

“Do you know how many games we’ve got? I disagree completely that tomorrow is make-or-break for Dean. He’s come back in, he is training really well, he’s maturing. He’s had some games.

“He’s training with, for me, one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He’s got potential to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. It’s a great competition between them. I don’t buy that argument that it’s a make or break for him.

“It’s not up to me to keep everyone happy, you know. I’ve said that a few times.

“The performances will always be the deciding factor if you play or not. I think every position that you play for Man United, it is your duty or your responsibility to make me and the coaches happy, so then there’s a bigger chance you can play next time.”

Henderson made his England debut during the international break and with Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope playing week-in week-out, Henderson may need to leave to have his No.1 status realised.

Barkas signed on a four year deal, believed to be worth £1m per year after Celtic paid around £4.5m for the player from AEK Athens. Barkas was in goals when Celtic were dumped out of the Champions League in 2018 by the Greek side and joined to become the new number one, taking on from Forster – who decided against making a permanent return.

However, some quiet performances for Celtic and then a shoulder injury allowed Scott Bain to stake a claim for the gloves. Unfortunately for Barkas, Bain has been impressive enough and doing just enough to keep him out of the team.
