Martin Boyle available for just £500k, could Celtic reignite interest in winger?

Martin Boyle is reportedly available in the summer for just £500k due to a clause in the contract extension that the Australian International signed last summer. The Hibs winger has scored 15 goals this season and has impressed under Jack Ross as the Easter Road outfit finished third.

According to The Sun, it will take just half a million pounds to prise Boyle from the Hibees. The player has been linked with a move to Celtic before, with moves touted in 2020 but given the fee that the Edinburgh side demanded, the Parkhead outfit opted against making a move.

Boyle was watched by Celtic in January 2020 but the £1.5m figure that Jack Ross put on his head appeared too much for the club hierarchy to sanction a move. Despite this, the now 28-year-old was able to sign a new deal until 2023, yet for just £500k, the player will be available in the summer.

With a massive overhaul due in the summer, could Celtic reignite their interest in Boyle? The player has always been a tricky opponent against the Parkhead club, scoring and creating using that blistering pace.

However, given his age and the differing styles of play (where Boyle wouldn’t be the outball), Celtic should likely look beyond Boyle in terms of quality. With that said, if Boyle and the club are both happy for a Jonny Hayes type player, someone that can fit in ad hoc and offer something a bit different, he could really be worth a punt given the price.

Celtic should be looking at players looking to ascend towards their peak as opposed to those likely to go in the other direction. You would hope that other players are being scouted, younger and hungrier players, who will improve the team and not just be squad players. The recruitment needs to be excellent this season, something that it has not been in the last twelve months and perhaps longer.
