Motherwell’s Maswanhise would be an ideal addition to Martin O’Neill’s Celtic squad…
As the search continues for new recruits, one player not too far from our doorstep could well prove a worthwhile punt, and an affordable one at that.
Motherwell’s Tawanda Maswanhise is the name I’m referring too, and a player more than a few of you would like to see in the Hoops. Strong and pacy, he’s a goalscorer and goal creator, what’s not to like?
The Zambian international and former Leicester City academy player has been in terrific form this campaign scoring 14 goals in 26 games in all competitions, the most recent being a terrific effort in The Steelmens 1-1 draw with Hibs at Easter Road on Saturday.

We got to get a close look at the player in the dramatic 3-2 win over the Steelmen back in October, and he impressed like the rest of his teammates as he notched an assist in a game we were matched right to the final whistle.
Well boss Jens Berthel Askou has used Maswanhise through the middle on several occasions this campaign, although his more natural position is on the right hand side of the attack, both positions we are in dire need of upgrading.
Maswanhise has also impressed at international level, most recently at the AFCON with Zambia, scoring a fantastic goal against South Africa, his 2nd goal in 17 appearances for his country.
We are still in need of an out and out target man, but Maswanhise could still add to our attacking options especially out on the right hand side, an area we’ve failed to upgrade since the departure of Nicolas Kuhn, with Mikel-Ange Balikwisha failing to impress, and James Forrest’s best days firmly behind him, although to be fair Yang is coming on to a game, it’s an area that requires urgent attention.
Maswanhise is under contract at Fir Park until the summer with the option of a further year, so he wouldn’t cost the earth with a bid of £1 million most likely enough to clinch his signature.

In our squad building process, I don’t see ourselves having less than 7 attacking options imo.
That usually is made up of 5 wide options with 2 strikers, and Maeda has been able to provide that 3rd striker role.
That’s totally changed at present, and have more than 7 attacking options currently under contract, so some sorting out is still required for ourselves.
Believe balikwisha was meant to be able to do that Maeda role, but looking like a long way from actually happening.
Hardly helps ourselves with not having the 2 goalscoring strikers available, with a bigger reliance upon Maeda trying to fill the gap within our squad at present?
So having that player who can do that duel role, is important for ourselves. Even moreso if Maeda isn’t going to be around for much longer?
So potentially is this player going to be looked upon as an upgrade upon balikwisha?
At present it’s hard to make a case that he wouldn’t be imo?
