Matt O’Riley earns Denmark call-up ahead of Euro 2024 preparation games

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has been called up to the Denmark National Team ahead of games against Switzerland and the Faroe Islands. The 23-year-old had initially missed out on the Danish squad for the Euro 2024 preparation games but was called up after Brenford’s Christian Nørgaard was forced to withdraw.

O’Riley has made 38 appearances so far this season, scoring 11 goals and assisting on 14 occasions for Brendan Rodgers’ side. His level of performance in the first half of the season was outstanding and if he can rediscover this, he will likely convince Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand that he is deserving of a seat on the plane to Germany. This would obviously benefit Celtic as they hunt a Double but inflate the resale value for the talented midfielder.

O’Riley will now hope that his call-up to the squad is a sign that he is in consideration for the upcoming European Championship this summer in Germany. Clearly Hjulmand rates the former MK Dons midfielder but with the opportunity to feature in these friendlies and the training camp, the player could force himself into consideration for the 23-man squad come the summer.
