Matt O’Riley is priceless to Celtic as we aim to defend our title

Matt won’t come cheaply, but he’s priceless to us in our aim to win the title…

It’s been rumoured today that clubs are lining up a bid for Matt O’Riley in the January transfer window. Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa are the sides who are said to be interested in securing the signature of the Danish international midfielder.

Whether there is any truth in the matter is another thing, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if those clubs mentioned as well as others are interested in Matt’s services. He’s improved ten fold under the leadership of Brendan Rodgers and has scored nine goals and registered five assists in all competitions this campaign thus far.

He has also turned in terrific performances at the highest level in the champions league and looks like he belongs at that level, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the big names are circling.

Bids of £25 million have been spoken of, but Matt is priceless to our cause. He’s been our best player so far this term and also the best player in Scottish football at the moment, and if we want to successfully defend our title, then we need him to stay put.

But realistically if an offer of that magnitude comes in for Matt it will be most likely accepted. Not just from our cash happy board, but the player himself might just be tempted.

We’ve seen it before with the likes of Jota and KT. They’re only human after all and it’s understandable for them to chase the money. Let’s hope Matt is the exception or that Celtic hold their nerve and reject all approaches at least until the league is won.
