Maybe Brendan Rodgers didn’t want to pursue Kvistgaarden

One time Celtic target Mathias Kvistgaarden now looks set to join English Championship side Norwich City as a few other clubs circle around the Danish international striker…

Plenty of Celtic supporters myself included were in favour of a move for the Brondby forward who looks like a fantastic prospect, but in the end the most important man in all of this, Brendan Rodgers quite clearly doesn’t share the same enthusiasm for a player who has now broken into the Denmark squad.

The rumoured fee for the player is believed to be in the region of £11 million which is clearly within our reach, as we did after all splash out that same figure on Arne Engels last year. And many will note that Norwich these days only spend the money that they make on transfers – nothing extra – so much of the fee that they’ll pay to Brondby will come from their excellent negotiating skills in getting Celtic up to £9.5m for Adam Idah last summer. A player that was valued optimistically at just £3m when he came to Celtic on loan having dropped out of the picture at Carrow Road.

This has all led to a sense of disbelief amongst the supporters that we didn’t try to tempt the player to the table in a bid to entice him to Glasgow, but it could well be that Brendan has other targets he would rather bring to the club.

We’ve all seen clips of the player and that’s the extent of our knowledge, whilst the scouts would have seen him up close, so who are we to judge?

Celtic did have a strong interest in the player last January and further back too, but maybe just maybe it’s one that Brendan doesn’t want to pursue? Has he got another alternative in mind as the Kyogo replacement?

Celtic fans are still waiting even as Kyogo completes his move from Rennes to Birmingham. Best of luck to the wee man down there.

  1. I think Brendan wants a different profile striker, doesn’t want a small, nippy forward, wants bigger, stronger, good in the air, Idah, Kenny, Osmond are that type, Strelec and Calvert Lewin are more likely as they fit that bill
