Michael Nicholson confirmed as Celtic Chief Executive

Michael Nicholson has been confirmed as the Chief Executive of Celtic following an announcement by the club today. The lawyer took the role on an interim basis following Dom McKay’s shock departure from the club but now it has been announced that he will take the job on a permanent basis.

Speaking to The Celtic FC website, Nicholson expressed his excitement at his new role and promised to deliver success to the club.

“As a Celtic supporter all my life, I will do everything I can to drive the Club forward, working at all times in the best interests of Celtic.

“I have been fortunate to be part of this great institution for a number of years and it is a privilege to now hold this new responsibility. We have a team of brilliant people who are absolutely committed to Celtic and we will work together to deliver success for the Club and our supporters.

“I look forward to working with Ange, the Board, our colleagues and supporters in order to advance as a club, proud of our traditions and dedicated to constant improvement.

“The current environment remains uncertain and everyone at the Club recognises and sincerely appreciates the ongoing commitment of our supporters. Our League Cup victory at the weekend gives us all something to celebrate and we look forward to continuing success for Celtic Football Club.”

The 45-year-old has held positions within the club as Head of Legal and Company Secretary but has progressed up the ranks within the club and will be the next successor to Peter Lawwell, who left the role in the summer. Nicholson is perceived as being someone that knows the inner workings of the club following years within the club.

His appointment springs no surprises but he will be able to work hard at proving that he has the vision to modernise the football club and support Ange Postecoglou in his role as manager. Nicholson will have some time to help the manager bolster his ranks after the winter break was brought forward in order to deal with the Scottish Government decided to limit crowd numbers to just 500.
