Miserable Celtic day completed as Olivier Ntcham hauled off at half time of Marseille’s humiliation vs Canet Roussillon

It’s clearly been a pretty grim day for the Celtic fans, but it doesn’t look like it’s gone much better for some of the loanees either.

Marseille are in a period of transition just now and a managerial change was even instigated by Olivier Ntcham arriving on loan in January, and he’s not had the best of times so far.

He’s still trying to work his way into the side and a cup game against fourth-tier Canet Roussillon looked like the ideal opportunity tonight, but it’s been a night of humiliation for the French giants.

Ntcham did start the game but he was hauled off at half time, while his team went on to lose the game 2-1 so it’s a pretty humiliating way to exit the competition.

The French Cup is always good for throwing up shocks so you do expect them, but Canet are fighting against relegation from the fourth tier so you had to think Marseille would emerge from the tie.

It’s starting to look like this loan spell isn’t going to be overly productive for Ntcham and a permanent move looks unlikely at this point, so it could simply be a case of trying to keep himself ticking over before making a big choice in the summer.

Hopefully he wants to push for a new chance at Celtic under a new manager who knows how to get the best out of him, but it certainly looks like a pretty miserable day all round from a Celtic point of view.
