Mixed messages about Giakoumakis deal as Celtic chase striker

Celtic are chasing a new centre-forward as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen before the end of the transfer window. Georgios Giakoumakis appears to be most likely to join the Hoops but there were mixed reports tonight from different sources regarding the Greek Internationalist.

Sportime’s Editor, Giannis Chorianopoulos, has said the deal to take the Venlo striker to Germany has not been completed, contrary to German newspaper BILD, who said that the player had agreed on a move to Werder Bremen.

Chorianopoulos says that Celtic are playing a tactical game with regards to the striker – they have made their offer and are now waiting for Venlo to accept. It will likely be a saga that has a number of turns to go down but it appears that Giakoumakis is trying to get the best possible deal and for that to happen, he needs to use one to get a better deal out of the other.

The Daily Record’s Scott Burns says that Postecoglou is chasing a striker, a central defender and a versatile midfielder in the coming days. Scales, Lovric and Giakoumakis have all been linked with moves but there also may be a few outgoings in the coming days with Odsonne Edouard the most likely to leave.
