Mo Elyounoussi – Celtic supporters are debating his possible return to Paradise

Mohammed Elyounoussi has rejected a new contract offer with Southampton and with his contract up in the summer he will be available on a free transfer.

This of course triggered a debate with Celtic supporters about whether a return to Celtic could be on the cards. Whether Ange or the player himself is even remotely interested is another story. It didn’t stop Celtic supporters from speculating though.

There is no doubt Mo is an excellent footballer. He’s an international player with great pedigree. I remember him playing against us for Molde at Celtic Park and he was the best player on the pitch. He was of course also outstanding for Basel in his time with the Swiss side. That form won him a £16 million move to the EPL with Southampton.

His time in England hasn’t been good, although this season he’s played a lot of football, but he hasn’t really performed to his best as Southampton face up to the prospect of relegation.

Mo of course had two loan spells with Celtic under Neil Lennon in season 19/20 and 20/21. He did okay in my book, not spectacular but you could tell he was a talented player. To be fair to him he was injured on more than a few occasions and wasn’t always selected in the starting XI which I thought was strange.

Mo made 66 appearances for Celtic scoring 25 goals, decent stats for a wide player. He also helped us win a treble. His form dipped in the covid season of 20/21, but then again so did everyone else’s.

He’s a player with undoubted talent and can play anywhere across the front three. He would fit into the present side, that I have no doubt. So do you think Mo would relish a return to Glasgow? or more importantly is Ange interested? It remains to be seen.

  1. Not a chance! If he isn’t good enough for Southampton, why would he be good enough for us?
We have created a very good philosophy in Paradise by only bringing in players who will improve the squad.
    Mo doesn’t fit that bill.
Besides, he had his chance but chose the pub team.

  2. I really liked Moi, he was absolutely flying before that injury in the League Cup final.
Free transfer & still a decent age but I just can’t see Ange returning to a Lenny signing. Pity, as a squad player he’d probably slot into our system quite well.
