Moi on his Mobile? “Celtic have bigger things to worry about right now”

Chris Sutton slaughtered two Celtic players last night after the horrific 4-1 home defeat to a makeshift Sparta Prague side at Celtic Park. If anything the performance was even worse that the result as Celtic lost a third competitive game for the first time since 1990.

Leigh Griffiths was targeted by Sutton once again for being unfit to start and still overweight but he was the only player who had a spark last night – in the Celtic side at least – and grabbed a goal back to put Celtic in touching distance of an equaliser for a brief spell at the start of the second half.

The other player Sutton slaughtered was Moi Elyounoussi and there was even a Celtic site this morning that focused on that little drama, when the Norwegian after being substituted quickly checked his mobile to see how the other game in the group (Ac Milan 0-3 Lille) was getting on.

The BT Sport cameras captured the moment. At the time it was no big deal in this household and Sutton’s reaction – given everything else that we’d watched, was well over the top. But we get that he was angry and it was unfortunate for Moi that he got caught sneaking a score update.

Bernadette on Twitter summed up her thoughts on this sideshow. “I only watched first half last night, just catching up on highlights and interviews today – I don’t understand the fuss about this though. Celtic have bigger things to worry about right now…” Hard to argue with that in any way whatsoever.

Elyounoussi would have been surprised to have been pulled up about that incident after the game and had every right to be mad at what Sutton had to say. He did though accept that it was “unacceptable” as he offered an explanation and an apology, admitting that he’d spoken to the manager and captain and would accept any punishment that may be coming his way.

“First of all, this is unacceptable from me. I have talked to both the coach and the captain and the case is dead between us,” Elyounoussi told VG as reported in Scottish Sun.

“The phone is just out of pocket. I have warnings from Milan-Lille, the second match in our group, and I just wanted to check the result in that match.

“In any case, it is stupid of me to put myself in that situation. I lie down and take the punishment I’ll now possibly get. I heard what Sutton commented and that is 100 percent wrong. On the contrary. I am very dedicated.”
