Motherwell’s Long Could Face Ban for Broony Stamp

Motherwell’s Chris Long could face a nervous wait to discover whether he will face retrospective action for an alleged stamp on Celtic’s Scott Brown.

The striker left Brown in a heap after trampling on his ankle after the Celtic captain slid to win the ball during the 4-0 win at Fir Park.

In a week where Leigh Griffiths’ altercation with Sam Woods in the win over Hamilton Accies resulted in considerable public outcry calling for the 29-year-old to be be banned, there has been little by way of condemnation for Long so far.

Long appears to take an unnatural stride to his left to catch Brown with his entire weight. Referee Don Roberston appeared to miss it, which means that Clare Whyte may have to rule on whether this was excessive force or violent conduct by Long.

Brown, 34, managed to continue but looking back on the incident it appears to be quite a nasty one.

In real time it is much worse, as you can see Long intentionally goes to leave one on Brown and should be punished. It isn’t a case of tit-for-tat with regards to the compliance process, Long – unlike Griffiths has attempted to hurt the Celtic captain.
