Nat Phillips set for Liverpool return after disappointing loan spell

Liverpool defender Nat Phillips will return to Merseyside in January. The centre back has been up at Celtic since the summer window, offering support to Brendan Rodgers’ backline amidst an injury crisis.

However, The Record reports that Phillips will return to his parent club, citing lack of first team action.

Since arriving from Anfield, Phillips has made eight appearances and was poor in his cameo against Hibs as well as being at fault versus Killie. The big defender has come in despite not playing a lot of games and has not impressed.

It is expected that upon return to Anfield, the Englishman will be sent out on loan again to get first team football.

However, Brendan Rodgers has been full of praise for the 26-year-old due to his commitment in training. The Irishman has utilised Phillips as his third defender behind Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales. With Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke struggling to be involved in match day squads, Phillips departure would hopefully improve their efforts in training as they look to get into the first team.

  1. I can understand why we opted for Philips due to the injury crisis at CB and with CL in mind?
What I didn’t expect was him to be so poor for ourselves?
What really concerns me now though, is Philips has all the hallmarks of Rodgers involvement upon that decision imo?
Now if Philips is Rodgers idea of a player with quality and experience, then God help us come January if he’s still around to make such decisions?

  2. Really Johnno? With extremely late injuries impacting the squad right at the deadline for European registration there was a need to get in an available player with some experience to fill a void, LAST MINUTE! So instead of bitching like a juvenile, get yourself behind the club instead.
