Neil Lennon confirms that Celtic are looking to sign central defender

NEIL LENNON has confirmed that the Scottish Champions are looking to bring in a central defender during the transfer window. Jozo Simunovic departed the club leaving just Kris Ajer and Christopher Jullien as natural, senior defenders. Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed can deputise when needed, as can youngster Stephen Welsh but Lennon has said that he will enter the market looking for a new defender.

Speaking at today’s media conference, the Celtic manager said that they would look to bolster the backline on the next few weeks.

“I need a centre half in because we didn’t take the option up with Jozo and I think that we need to add to the centre-forward position.”

Celtic were reportedly interested in Christophe Hérelle according to Get Football News France; however, the defender is expected to complete the move to Nice’s Ligue 1 rivals Brest despite late interest from Celtic.

Celtic are closing in on a deal for Albian Ajeti as well as maintaining talks with Steven Fletcher. The club have only signed Barkas and Elyounoussi this window so far. Eight players left the club at the end of last season and Bayo looks set to join them by taking the Celtic Park exit with a deal to Toulouse expected to be announced.
