Neil Lennon Delighted With His Team & Individual Performances

Neil Lennon spoke to Celtic TV after tonight’s 2-2 draw with Lille in France. The manager was impressed with the performance of the team, but is left feeling a little “bittersweet” as he felt that the game could have been won.

“We played really well. I’m delighted in how we approached the game. There were some great performances and it was a great point which keeps us alive in the group,” Lennon said.

When asked about Mohammed Elyounoussi’s performance, the gaffer said: “It’s the best I’ve seen him. He was strong and fit. He scored two beauties and was tremendous. He just has to get that consistency now. He was a class player tonight and a real catalyst for a very strong performance.”

Elyounoussi bagged a brace and Scott Bain saved a penalty, when asked about the latter, Lennon expressed his delight: “I was delighted with Scott, thought he was excellent. We felt aggrieved with the decision but he made a great penalty save, couple of good saves and he handled everything well.”

The injury to Kristoffer Ajer will be a concern, something which Lennon sadly confirmed: “He felt his groin go so it’s not great by the looks of things. We’ll need to see how long he’s out for but he looks a doubt for Sunday.”

After a tough week, tonight was a positive step as Celtic return to fighting on domestic fronts. However, the draw also opens up the group nicely.

“The players played with great belief tonight. We need to win our home games now. Milan and Lille play back to back so it’s important we take as many points as we can off Prague in these next two games. If you asked me before the game I would’ve been happy with one point, Lille are a good side. But when you are leading 2-0 it’s disappointing not to get the win so mixed emotions right now.”
