In Monday’s explosive press conference, Neil Lennon claimed that politics rather than public health drove the decision for 16 Celtic players and staff to self-isolate after Christopher Jullien contracted COVID-19.
During that press conference, in which Lennon also slammed the hypocrisy of the SNP and mentioned that one of their MSPs had travelled from London to Glasgow with COVID, we learnt that a second Celtic player had tested positive. The individual, who has remained nameless, was reportedly a player who was in isolation after the club’s trip to Dubai.
The story just won’t go away and BBC Radio Scotland continued with it today on their Good Morning Scotland show.
Deputy First Minister John Swinney was a guest on the programme and in response to Lennon’s remarks he told the radio station: “I’m at a loss for words.”
“I said a few weeks ago I thought it was a really bad idea that Celtic decided to go to Dubai for this trip. I didn’t think it was a particularly great signal.
“I have no ill will to Neil Lennon whatsoever, but I think his comments in this respect have been absolutely appalling.”
Celtic were granted approval to go to Dubai, by the government and football authorities, back in November.
As such, the club and authorities have been at loggerheads ever since. It doesn’t look great for all parties, but it’s time for Celtic put the matter behind them and focus on Livingston tonight.
