Neil Warnock has sensationally left his role as Aberdeen manager just weeks after taking on the Pittodrie role. After Barry Robson was sacked, the 75-year-old was parachuted in to help revive their Top Six ambitions but failed to register a league win resulting in increased speculation about whether the Dons would make a move to get a new manager in before the end of the season.
After Warnock led Aberdeen to a 3-1 win over Kilmarnock, Warnock’s departure was confirmed. The news comes just days after Celtic legend Neil Lennon threw his hat in the running for the managerial vacancy with the North East club.
The Irishman has been out of work since leaving Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus and would be an interesting move for all parties, given that he has enjoyed success in all roles with the exception of Bolton. Lennon won ten titles with Celtic, eight Scottish Cups and three league cups in two spells as manager and as a player.
He would certainly thrive at Aberdeen, who are keen on establishing themselves as the third biggest force in Scotland.
Although I think Lenny could do a job there, I’ve yet to meet a Dandy who wants him. Possibly they’ll come round to him if he got them back up the league, but the decision would come down to Cormack, but he has to get someone in who can steady the ship for the next few years.
Would be good for Lenny to get back into management and Aberdeen could be the perfect job for him at this time to rebuild his reputation. Time will tell…
