New deal for Ange Postecoglou would be brilliant news for the Celtic support

Dermot Desmond made a rare visit to Celtic park yesterday and it didn’t take long for the tongues to start wagging. The majority shareholder was pictured talking to Ange Postecoglou. Although it could just be a routine visit, rumours have been circulating on social media of what the reason could be. The most popular theory being that Ange Postecoglou is to be offered a new lucrative, long-term contract.

If that was indeed the reason for his visit, it would be brilliant news for Celtic fans. Ange of course like most Celtic managers in recent times, has been operating on a one year rolling contract. The last man who signed a long term deal was of course Brendan Rodgers.

It doesn’t make his situation any more secure, as we witnessed when Rodgers left half way through a bumper four year deal, but it’s a bit of security for the club as they will be compensated to the fullest if the man in charge is enticed by another club, as was the case when Rodgers left for Leicester City. It meant of course that the Midlands club had to splash out a big sum in compensation.

It would also be a big boost going into the new campaign with Ange committing the next few years of his career to the club.

I don’t know the details of Ange’s deal but I doubt he’s on the same figures as Brendan was on, but he’s definitely done enough to be talked about in the same bracket or even higher. He has the power to negotiate a bigger salary, let’s hope it’s more than just a rumour and Desmond persuades Ange Postecoglou to pen a new deal.

The feel good factor is through the roof at Celtic Park presently, Ange signing a new deal would raise it even further.
