Newcastle United considering selling reported Celtic target

NEWCASTLE UNITED are weighing up selling goalie Freddie Woodman, who is reportedly a target for Celtic should a move for Fraser Forster fail to transpire. Respected journalist Alan Nixon responded to a Swansea City fan who asked if the Toon were open to selling the England keeper.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan with Swansea City in the English Championship and has impressed. However with Martin Dubravka as the Magpies No.1, Woodman could seek a move elsewhere in the search for first team football. Which Nixon suggests could be on a permanent basis – meaning Celtic would need to battle with Swansea for his signature.

The ex-England U21 keeper has spent time on loan with Kilmarnock as well as Aberdeen but with ex-Motherwell ‘keeper Mark Gillespie singing for the Toon, Woodman may look for a permanent move elsewhere.

Celtic have been linked with Joe Hart as well as AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas but Forster remains to be the club’s first choice to be Celtic’s No.1 ahead of the new season. Craig Gordon left the club to rejoin Hearts leaving just Scott Bain as the only senior goalkeeper at the club.

Back in 2017, Woodman won the Golden Glove at the U20 World Cup as England won the competition in Korea. Celtic signed Fraser Forster from Newcastle originally on loan in 2010 and the club could look to Tyne and Wear again.
