Nicholson and Desmond break their silence over Nancy’s Celtic sacking

Celtic Chief Executive Michael Nicholson and major shareholder Dermot Desmond have broken their silence on the decision to sack Wilfried Nancy. The Frenchman was sacked after losing six of his eight games in charge.

In a statement on Monday evening, Celtic confirmed the return of Martin O’Neill as interim manager until the end of the season. The Irishman returns to the club where he will be assisted by Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham.

However, the club have received sizeable criticism for their appointment of Nancy when retaining O’Neill appeared to all to be the best option.

In fairness to the club, they have recognised that both Nancy and Paul Tisdale’s roles were untenable and, accordingly, they were dismissed on Monday. Nicholson, who is not without criticism for the appointment of both, addressed Nancy’s sacking.

“Wilfried is someone who we will always respect, and while it is unfortunate that things did not work out, we certainly offer him our best wishes and hope that he can once again achieve success in his future roles.”

Dermot Desmond reacted by wishing Nancy well while emphasising the disappointment felt by the club at the poor results.

“When we appointed Wilfried to the role of manager, clearly we thought we could enjoy a successful period under his control.

“Unfortunately this did not work out in the way we would have liked, and while he and the club are disappointed with the recent period, I want to take this opportunity to wish him well in all he does going forward.”

The Celtic hierarchy need to use this time to their advantage. O’Neill is one of a few managers that would be able to galvanise and unite the club. Nicholson and Co could assist by opening dialogue with supporters and bringing the Green Brigade back into the ground and helping assist in turning Celtic Park back into a fortress.

  1. Wow, just shows how insane these 2 egotistical, narcasistic guys are!!!

Brendon won 11 trophy’s out of 13 and was slaughtered by these 2. Nancy is the worst manager in Celtic’s history and appointed by the 2 clowns above and they thank him for his services and wish him well.

Bendon deserved at least the same dignity, but only now are the 2 clowns above asking advice from a media expert before opening their mouths after making such a 4rs3 of Celtic’s season.

  2. So the “outstanding candidate” has been jetisoned. Does Desmond not realise that perhaps his judgement isn’t as good as he thinks it is..
    Quisling Nicholson just follow follows.
No reflection on the position they have put the club into.
It doesn’t bode well for any manager.

    • This is the thing, you’re not happy when they don’t admit to making mistakes and, not happy when they do. Lots of boards have make mistakes when it comes to appointing managers.

  3. Dermot Desmond clearing up his own sh*t…..it still stinks though. The OAP’s on the board for over 20 years have to go. The weak yes men and(woman) on the board have to go too. Only by giving autonomy and appointing dynamic younger professionals to roles they are qualified for (there are plenty Celtic supporting types well qualified to take over) will the club begin to become modern and progressive and the stink lessen However it will remain hovering as long as a shareholder with no majority calls all the shots because he has loads of money and doesn’t think he is limited as a football decision maker…..he is extremely limited eg Paul Tisdale appointment and the completely no self awareness assault after sacking BR.

  4. Respectfully Lubo98, your blinkered blindness regarding your ridiculous comments regarding on how “opening the doors to the GB and the board opening dialogue” with the supporters is unbelievably naive and one sided, and also typical of exactly WHY we have the problems today!
You seem to forget that the so-called supporters and GB who frankly have a damned cheek referring to themselves as such, are the ones who REFUSE to have two-way conversations! They are the very CAUSE of the issues! Why after all would they want to open two-way talks?
You typify ignorance and blinkered views!
It’s time to recognize we have the best board in the game!

    • Where did you come from, where did you go, where did you come from cotton eye joe. Verbal diarrhea

      • O, yours was verbal diarrhea , not his. Is it true they’re going to give their season tickets to those who can’t afford them ( me) , ie the oppressed?

  5. Look after your health everybody then you might get back a second life in your 70s. The wife(Martins) might get more peace now to get the vacuuming done. Chins up. Heads up. Rebuild base camp. Then build for a real attack on Europe. Breath the Spirit of 67.PS for the real accountants upstairs: the financial asset of the club is the supporters AND their children…dont create a liability.

  6. Desmond the Despot’s comments are vastly different from the tone of his scurrilous attack on Brendan Rodgers, an outstanding manager who filled the boardroom with silverware. Shame on him.
