Celtic have confirmed the appointment of Martin O’Neill as interim manager until the end of the season. The Irishman has once again answered the call by the club to step in and rescue the campaign, this time replacing Wilfried Nancy.
The French manager was sacked after a woeful start to life in Glasgow, losing six out of his first eight games. Following O’Neill was always going to be difficult, especially after the club legend won seven out of his eight games before handing over to Nancy.
Now, he’s sensationally returned on a deal until the end of the season. O’Neill cancelled media appearances on Friday and Saturday, including a Sky Sports gig at Celtic Park. Perhaps O’Neill recognised the pressure this might have put on Nancy as well as the likely questions of whether this would’ve happened under his watch.
Thankfully, O’Neill has agreed to return and he will be assisted by Shaun Maloney, Mark Fotheringham as well as Stevie Woods, Gavin Strachan, Stephen McManus and Greg Wallace.
Disappointing for me i really hoped we were going for the Motherwell coach , someone else will nick him soon enough imo
Welcome back Martin & good luck 4 rest of the season.hail hail.
I like him too, however not a bad decission to see how his season pans out. Espescially now half the season is over and teams now know what and how he plays.
Lets be honest, if Jens keeps it going and Celtic want him in the summer, we will get him!
Another admission of guilt by the Celtic Board —-Every Celtic supporter and their Granny questioned the appointment of Nancy & Co. at such a critical time in the season . The damage is done and cannot be undone ; the Celtic Board will now hide behind Martin O’ Neil and take every credit for “Steadying the ship” . A stop-gap , appointment , if ever I saw one—Martin O’Neil should have told them to get to F**K but he is too much of a gentleman to do that . Also , like may supporters , his love of Celtic exceeds his desire for revenge .
Let’s hope he weeds-out all the imposters in Celtic jerseys which Nancy’s system exposed .
Also , the Celtic support should not lose sight of the real problem and not allow any success achieved by Martin & Co. to cloud any memory of the idiots who appointed Nancy & Tisdale in the first place ( The present Celtic Board ) and deal with them when the time is right .
