No corruption, Collum is just a pretty awful match official

Talk of ‘corruption’ from Collum is absurd. He’s just a pretty awful match official…

The angry bears from the club that wants absolutely everything given to them are still jamming the phone-ins and cramming social media with tales of woe, whining about things like ‘corruption’ after watching their side lose at Celtic Park on Saturday.

Yes it really is amusing. It’s almost as satisfying as the win over their team itself. The same supporters who have dubbed us ‘paranoid’ for the same accusations for many a year are now complaining about the same scenario. You couldn’t make it up. Although in the weird world of Scottish football, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

The only difference is, that we have had cause to be concerned about the integrity of the officials. For years we’ve had to put up with the likes of self confessed Rangers lodge attending men like Bobby Tait, and Jim McCluskey.

The Rangers supporting linesman Gordon McBride who famously chopped off a perfectly good Jorge Cadete goal at Ibrox. The proven bigoted Hugh Dallas, theRangers pub going John Beaton and to a lesser extent the ex-Ibrox season ticket holder Bobby Madden. Remember his final match in charge of a Glasgow Derby in that Scottish Cup Final in Ange’s first season?

Bobby Madden

Has a Celtic supporters event ever had a former referee as a guest speaker? It seems to be a daily common occurrence within their own support and that tells its own story.

Not a peep from the media or the supporters of the two sides to have played out of Ibrox. Not a single mention. There was also the farcical case of Dougie McDonald and the famous ‘Dougie Dougie gate’ moment that seen the man himself resign amidst a refereeing strike that soon followed.

Now it’s the much maligned Collum in the firing line, and not for the first time. He was of course once sin die from doing games involving the Rangers. Yes he wasn’t allowed near their games after a letter of complaint was sent to the SFA regarding his ‘incompetence’ after booking the wrong player in a game against St Mirren. Imagine their rage if he gave Celtic a penalty when his back was turned on the incident and then admitted that he pointed to the spot because he heard the contact. There was no contact but even if there was it could have been the Rangers player fouling the Celtic player surely.

Let’s get things straight. Collum is an inept referee, he’s one of our worst. Not just in the case of one side, but every side in the country. Every single supporter of every side in this country can recall a decision that Collum has got wrong against their side.

Ironically he’s given the Rangers their fare share of penalties and some of them rather dubious indeed. And I’ll say it again, Collum famously gave Rangers RIP a spot kick at Celtic park, because he ‘heard it’ despite having his back turned from the incident in question.

He’s even let them off with a few questionable ones while on VAR duty. Remember Connor Goldson playing basketball in his own penalty box at Ibrox in the Derby this time last year?

No penalty and Willie Collum was on VAR duties a year ago today

The problem they have with Collum is that he’s a Roman Catholic and they even hinted that this was the problem in that letter to the Scottish FA. Not the supporters, the actual club itself. Collum is an RE teacher, yes he’s a Catholic so he shouldn’t be anywhere near Scottish football, in their eyes but it’s perfectly fine for their own supporters to referee these games. Does it actually happen anywhere else? Does Real Madrid fans referee matches against Barcelona, or Arsenal fans get the whistle in games against Spurs?

Fair enough if that’s their thinking, if no Catholic should be allowed to referee a match involving them but what about the Rangers supporting, pub going Freemason, lodge attending officials, is it ok for them to keep officiating in the Scottish game? They really haven’t thought this through.

A solution would be to swap referees and match officials with another country, perhaps somewhere like Denmark, Sweden or The Netherlands and send Collum, Beaton and Walsh in their direction.

Yes of course it is in their delusional minds. Collum is a useless ref, but corrupt? No, he’s just a convenient squirrel in their aim to deflect from their own failings. That’s the honest and for them painful truth.
