A big spend is required from Celtic in the January transfer window. No more excuses from Michael Nicholson will be acceptable. It’s time for our highly paid CEO to earn his ‘world class’ wages. Get it done, Michael, get the players we need signed…
The January window is only a week away from opening for business, and we need to spend big if we are to retain our title, that is now a given. Michael Nicholson has stated previously that will indeed be the case, but then again I wouldn’t trust our esteemed CEO as far as I could throw him.
Pretty much in the same way as the rest of the those in charge of our club, who spend their time these days trying to manufacture ways to discredit the Celtic support and by association the Celtic brand. This self harm is self defeating because all it does it make the support even more determined to call them to account for the failing in how they are running our football club.
With the support Celtic is nothing, biting the hand that feeds you Michael is not the brightest thing to do.
If Michael is in any way serious about supplying Wilfried Nancy with the players that he badly needs, then a central defender, a creative and goalscoring midfielder, a right sided winger and a seasoned centre forward are an absolute priority in my humble opinion. More faces are required, but a bare minimum of four quality first team players are needed if we have any serious aspirations of winning the league.
It’s possible that Daizen Maeda and Yang may be leaving in the upcoming window, and we should expect to receive a minimum of £10 million for the Japanese international and £3m for the South Korean who has made a decent contribution since Michael Nicholson denied him the chance to sign for Birmingham City on deadline day.
Wilfried Nancy spoke today at his media conference ahead of the game against Livingston about Daizen being happy and possibly staying to the summer or beyond.
“He is really happy here. I knew that he had opportunities to leave before, but for the moment, he is with us, and he is happy to be here,” the Celtic manager said today at his media conference (covered HERE in full on The Celtic Star) when talking about Maeda’s situation.
Nancy added: “For sure, I would like to keep him, and he knows that. I hope that he is going to stay. He is not a natural winger because he is able to make runs. When he starts in the middle, he makes a run on the side to attack.
“When he starts on the side, he makes a run towards the net. It is all about those situations. He can be good as a number nine, but he needs players around him because he is not a player who just keeps the ball; he likes to make runs and combine.
“Tactically, he is very interesting. When I have him on the side, I know that something will happen either in behind or we can use his position on the wing to be able to attack through the middle. It all depends on the situation.”
Knowing the Celtic Board’s mindset as we do they will find it difficult to turn away buyers should bids come in. If Daizen’s valuation is higher and Yang has many admirers in the English Championship, there could be up towards £20m on offer. That bounty along with the profit we received in the summer for outgoings that was shamefully not put to use, can more than fund a spending spree to back Wilfried Nancy THEIR OWN MAN!
It would be a spending spree that is majorly required on a Celtic squad that is on a serious decline. No doubt we’ll hear the usual excuses about January being a difficult time to do business, but that’s a complete myth. There are players available who can be recruited if the price is right. It’s just a matter having the competence to get the deals over the line and not lowballing looking for the best bargains in the January sales for items – top striker for example – who comes at a premium not with a discount/
There can be no excuse after our disastrous failure to supply Brendan Rodgers with the required quality in the summer window. A failure that bit us on the backside big time, just as Brendan feared that it would. I’ve just written an article about whether Johnny Kenny or Shin Yamada should lead the line at Livingston on Saturday. That subject matter would have been unimaginable the night we gave Bayern Munich the fright of their lives back in March.
So we will all be watching you Michael, so loosen those purse strings. There is no excuse for failure this time. Get it done or step aside and let the club recruit a proper CEO, the best man available for the job, not a company secretary who is used to handling UEFA paperwork and reviewing contracts not leading a massive club like Celtic.

Nancy is quoted today that he is hopeful Maeda could stay till summer and maybe beyond. As for Yang, he has found something recently that may change his mind about wanting away.

Sorry but what do you mean that you wouldn’t trust them as far as you could throw them. Is this not the leadership who have delivered us countless trophies, assured us we’ll never be like Ra*gers and be skint. We’re spoilt compared to when I was young going through the torture of winning nothing and having a mediocre team. Remember players like Wayne Biggins.
