“No point in risking it”, MON clears up Araujo Celtic absence

Martin O’Neill has revealed that Julian Araujo picked up a thigh injury in the Scottish Cup Quarter Final win against Rangers. The right back was a surprise absence from the team to face Motherwell this afternoon with Colby Donovan coming into the starting XI.

When pressed before the game about the absence of the Mexican star, O’Neill confirmed an injury issue but that he did not want to risk it.

“(Julian) has picked up an injury during the course of the week. He felt very tight after Sunday’s game and he’s felt a little bit (of pain) in his thigh, and we felt that there was no point in risking it today.”

Araujo is expected to get a recall to the Mexico team ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Donovan has come into the team with Tony Ralston deputising from the bench. Both players will harvest ambitions of being included in the Scotland squad for friendlies later this month.
