Noel Whelan sends warning to new Celtic signing Ismaila Soro

The long-dragged transfer saga of Ismaila Soro finally came to an end today as Celtic finally confirmed that the Ivory Coast midfielder has completed a move to Parkhead. Despite a fee being agreed quite some time back, the move had been stalling due to a number of issues but it is good see that the deal is finally done with Soro signing a four-and-a-half year deal with the club.

Strangely though, the Ivorian admitted that it was his dream to play for Liverpool one day. That is certainly interesting considering the fact that he just signed for the Hoops and it is perhaps not the best idea to see this opportunity as just a stepping stone to the fame and money of the Premier League.

Noel Whelan certainly did not feel so either. Speaking with Football Insider, he said:

“He’s already said that he wants to play for Liverpool as well.

“I know it’s very strange to hear that when you’ve come to a new club, but if you want that stepping stone then you need to hit the ground running with Celtic and do a job for them first and foremost.”

Soro will have to be absolutely spectacular in the Celtic jersey if he is attract the attention of the European champions. Thus, at the end of the day, it is going to only benefit the Hoops if he does indeed get his dream move one day. You don’t get that kind of move if you are not world-class.
