Noel Whelan Tips Ajer For Leicester Move

Former Leeds United player, Noel Whelan, thinks that Kristoffer Ajer’s relationship with Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers, could be the catalyst for a summer transfer.

Rodgers selected Ajer in the starting line up of his successful spell in charge of Celtic on 66 occasions. The Norwegian has been heavily linked with a move away from Parkhead after his agent spoke out about exit plans. Indeed, the defender has been rumoured to be in demand from Leicester, Arsenal and AC Milan.

Speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan suggested that the East Midlands is where Ajer will most likely end up if he leaves Celtic. “Brendan knows him and has worked with him before,” Whelan said.

“He must feel he is capable of working in the Premier League,” the former Leeds star continued.

“You always trust the players you have worked with before because you realise their potential. Brendan must believe he can do a job there. They will be in pole position because of that relationship. Also, the style of play they have, he will complement the other players they have at the back.”

Regardless of the speculation, Ajer has been quiet, only stating that he is focused on playing his football. Celtic haven’t suggested they have plans to sell the defender, but Whelan said: “If the money is right Celtic will listen I would think.”

The talk has been of a £25m move, for that kind of cash it would certainly be tough for Celtic to turn down, when you think that they invested in an equally impressive defender, Christopher Jullien, for a third of the price.
