Not bothered – No Ange Postecoglou return, ‘difficult to do’ McKenna deal

Far from bursting our bubble on the day after the night before, many Celtic supporters will be like myself rather content with the news from Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas, who works alongside Anthony Joseph at the broadcaster that Ange Postecoglou is ‘very unlikely’ to make a sensational return to Celtic as Brendan Rodgers’ replacement.

And the further news that Kieran McKenna is going to be a ‘very difficult’ deal for Celtic to do isn’t going to cause too much concern. Here’s the update from Lyall Thomas from Sky Sports:

‘Ange Postecoglou very unlikely to become the next Celtic boss, Sky Sports News understands. Not something that is expected to progress at this time. McKenna also very difficult to do and he will give an Ipswich press conference later ahead of their game v QPR.’

Those Celtic supporters probably are thinking the same as myself. The football was great last night and we’d be happy with more of the same rather than unsetting the applecart  and introducing a new manager with his own coaching team up at Lennoxtown leaving the players not knowing whether they are coming or going and with many of the better ones at risk of choosing the latter.

Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney clearly enjoyed that game of football last night as much as the rest of us who were there or watching via Celtic TV. So why not keep that in place to give Celtic time to get their man in place for next season?

Maybe that’s too early to call but a week tomorrow would be the time to assess things better after the Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney combo have had a game in the Scottish Premiership, Premier Sports Cup and Europa League under their belts.

Three wins and the calls for it to continue will be very loud indeed.  Let’s let the next seven days play out and see where we are next Friday morning.

If the Celtic Board can wait a year to bring in a striker to replace Kyogo then surely they can surely wait a week to make this managerial call. They are actually very good at doing nothing at all so this request should be right up their Kerrydale street.

  1. You dont speak for all celtic fans we need new manager in now for the January transfer window so new manager has players in for this season and next to hit the ground run thats why celtic are complaining anout this season not been ready FGS.you sound like a rangers fan it only 1 game against Falkirk u think martin picked that team 🤔 😂

  2. Personally believe that any changes to getting in a new permanent manager, would be at the end of this season imo?

The reason why, is there is still a January window to overcome, especially as I still suspect that a number of players would like to leave, as things stand imo?
Yang and Maeda were nearly out the door in the summer, so could Paulo be added to the list now?

Still believe that it’s the biggest issue for MoN and Maloney to try and resolve, which will be tested in the period before January.
If we are still in europa league contention, then only 3 changes will be allowed to our 24 man squad in operation.
Jota could be regarded as bringing that number up to the 25 allowed, unless any more serious injuries should occur?

The CCV injury is a potential nuisance to ourselves, with only 3 CBs available for ourselves at present, within our europa league campaign. Pusey wasn’t named within the squad, and would be surprised if he wasn’t to return to city in January imo.
So will possibly have to wait and see how that issue develops for ourselves, but certainly a risk factor exists at present within our CBs position at present.
Getting AJ back might ease those concerns, as a potential emergency CB if needed, but hopefully that won’t be the case

We still have a number of players who may well have an eye upon the world cup at the end of the season.
Doubtful now CCV will be included but potentially Trusty?
Don’t forget that we are possibly going to be without Seb, with the African cup of nations also.

So there is already a potential number of big managerial decisions to be made, before January even arrives.
Still believe that MoN would be the best option for ourselves to overcome that period, with the decision making that will be required.
Between now and then, MoN and Maloney will not only be looking to get results, but a period of stability is hopefully formed within our squad.

Last night was a great indication of that hopefully getting achieved, which will be helped if our players buy into the MoN and Maloney partnership.
Yet we are in a result business, and not currently in a position where we can afford to many setbacks in gaining the right results either.
This Thursday/Sunday turnaround in matches, will be a test upon squad depth. Would expect better decision making than Rodgers showed last Sunday in that regards now.

Still getting to the next international break, on a winning run, has to be our aim hopefully.
Don’t believe that it’s not possible to achieve either imo.

  3. I love Martin but I can’t believe what you’re saying , after one win against Falkirk you think we should just keep Martin on then .. come on now. I must admit tho you outdone the first comment with the next bit about how we should just leave it for a few weeks and see what happens. Yeah sounds like a great idea, I mean who would want to get the right man in as quick as possible so they can try saving this season and seeing the squad so they know what they need and hopefully can get a couple in over the transfer window , why bother doing that when we could just play a wee game and have a laugh leaving getting a new manager untill Martin maybe loses a game . This is not a game of winner stays on down the park. This site has to be a joke , it’s got tj be some sort of weird sarcastic comedy , surely it’s not the actual real honest effort of an adult!
