On This Day: Aaron Mooy and Kyogo inspire Celtic to win in Perth

On This Day in 2023, Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic put in an excellent display on the road to beat St Johnstone. The Australian manager, who is now at Spurs, had his team ramping up their form after the winter break and they took it out on the Perth side.

Kyogo came deep before switching the play for Maeda. The winger cut in and played it to Aaron Mooy, who returned the ball to Kyogo. The Japanese striker took a touch before firing the ball towards the goal only for veteran defender Andrew Considine to bundle it over the line.

Jota showed trickery on the right wing before firing his cross towards Kyogo in the six-yard box. The attacker took a touch after it squirmed between the legs of Andrew Considine, before firing into the back of the net. It was Kyogo’s 22nd goal of the season.

Kyogo played the ball into Jota’s pass, who took a touch before dinking the ball over the heads of St Johnstone defenders allowing Aaron Mooy to rush through and lift the ball over Remi Matthews.

Celtic made it 4-1 through a clever free-kick routine as David Turnbull found the net. Considine was sent off for hauling Oh to the deck outside the area. This allowed Celtic the chance to score late in the game. Matt O’Riley tee’d the ball up for Turnbull, who fired the ball into the net.

Celtic went nine points clear of Rangers with this win. One year later, Rangers can go level on points with a win tomorrow. The club are really needing to focus and pull together a run of form that can get the title ambitions back on track once again.
