On This Day: Bobo Balde Signs For Celtic

“Bobo’s Gonna Get Ye!” It’s a chant we all remember as the 6ft 3in, 14 stone, solid muscle frame of Bobo Balde bullied attackers at Celtic Park and beyond. A fan favourite, it was on this day that Bobo joined the club from Toulouse in 2001 for a fee of £900,000.

Bobo Balde is infamously remembered for his sending off in Seville, but it was during that incredible season that supporters voted him as their player of the year. Ever thankful, Bobo said: “It means a lot to win this award. Its good to know the fans are behind you and they are happy with what you do for them”. There were many great performances by many players over that season so it was quite an achievement.

Balde become a bit of a cult player thanks to his ability to scare even the hardiest of men. He spent eight years in the hoops, lifting ten trophies and reaching the UEFA Cup final. However, one of his finest moments caught on camera was off the pitch in Barcelona!
